Newton, meaning new homestead or village, is one of the most common place names in England. The Newton that is the subject of this website is a village in the County of Warwickshire in the centre of England. It lies about 3 miles to the north east of the town of Rugby at 400 feet above sea level on gently shelving ground above the valley of the upper River Avon.
The web site carries news, reviews and pictures of Newton. It is updated regularly so each time you visit you should find something new.
MUSIC IN THE VILLAGE
(APOLOGIES FOR THIS IMAGE BEING ON ITS SIDE - I'M AFRAID IT'S BEYOND MY CAPABILITIES TO PERSUADE THE COMPUTER TO DISPLAY IT THE RIGHT WAY UP)
Saturday 15th November saw two music events in the village. First up was "Relative Jazz" (pictured above) who appeared at the Village Hall under the "Live and Local" scheme. Live and Local brings, with the aid of subsidy, brings professional musicians to small village venues. Relative Jazz played keyboards and saxophone and entertained the sell-out crowd to an evening of classic jazz, some standards and some of their own compositions.
And then it was on to the Stag and Pheasant to be entertained by Elvis. Since his death he has made few public appearances and so it was quite a coup for Mat and Michele to persuade him to appear in the pub.
FORTHCOMING EVENTS
There's a lot going on between now and Christmas.
Friday 31st October - Halloween Party in the Village Hall (7 - 9pm)
Saturday 15th November. Another "Live and Local" in the Village Hall. This time it's "Relative Jazz". If previous events are anything to go by it'll be excellent and the tickets will be sold out well in advance. To reserve your speak to Judith, Rosemary or Ian as soon as possible.
Monday 22nd December - Carols in the Village Hall. Musical accompaniment from A Tempo, mulled wine and mince pies for all. 7pm.
Ruth will be organising the traditional Carol Singing around the village on a date yet to be fixed. Details will be posted as soon as they're available.
WEEKLY PHOTO - NOW PHOTO ALBUM
Since this site was set up over a year ago, it's had a "Weekly Photo" page. For reasons that are beyond my competence it's proven increasingly tricky to upload pictures. Also visitors to the site have said that they've missed pictures that have only been on the site for a week and are then deleted. The page has therefore been changed to a Photo Album. Pictures appear as "thumbnails" - if you click on one then it will blow up to full size. This means that pictures of Newton will remain on the site and it should be easier to load. That is the theory - if it isn't working in practice on your PC please let me know on northviewcottage@btinternet.com and I might revert to Plan A.
