Newton, meaning new homestead or village, is one of the most common place names in England. The Newton that is the subject of this website is a village in the County of Warwickshire in the centre of England. It lies about 3 miles to the north east of the town of Rugby at 400 feet above sea level on gently shelving ground above the valley of the upper River Avon.

The web site carries news, reviews and pictures of Newton. It is updated regularly so each time you visit you should find something new.

TECHNICAL PROBLEM.

A (hopefully) temporary technical problem means that it is not currently possible to post new photographs on this site. Until the problem is overcome updates will only be to the text of the site.

MUSIC IN THE VILLAGE HALL - SAT. 13 SEPTEMBER.

Social evenings with music are always popular in the Village Hall and another one will be taking place on the evening of Saturday 13th September, starting at 7.30pm. The music will be provided by "Rack and Ruin" (the duo who played at this year's Village Show) and there will be a bar and soft drinks. Children welcome. Look out in the village for poster details; tickets will be on sale soon.

VILLAGE SHOW.

The sun shone, the crowds came out and this year's Village Show was one of the best ever. If you were there then you know how good it was. If you weren't there then you missed sideshows, music, entertainment, ice creams, games, competitions, the produce and vegetable show, bar, barbecue, teas and cakes, vintage tractors and much more. Things like this don't happen by accident so thanks are due to Kev and his small team of helpers for their efforts in planning beforehand and hard work on the day (those marquees down go up and down by themselves). Hopefully this site will carry pictures of the show in the near future (see "Technical Problem" above).

VILLAGE YOUNGSTERS ASSAULT COURSE

On a warm, late July evening a group of young people from the village went on an assault course at a site between Shawell and Lutterworth. The experience turned the smart young boys and girls pictured above into the muddy urchins you see below. To see what brought about the change click on PHOTO ALBUM and view the latest pictures

WEEKLY PHOTO - NOW PHOTO ALBUM

Since this site was set up over a year ago, it's had a "Weekly Photo" page. For reasons that are beyond my competence it's proven increasingly tricky to upload pictures. Also visitors to the site have said that they've missed pictures that have only been on the site for a week and are then deleted. The page has therefore been changed to a Photo Album. Pictures appear as "thumbnails" - if you click on one then it will blow up to full size. This means that pictures of Newton will remain on the site and it should be easier to load. That is the theory - if it isn't working in practice on your PC please let me know on northviewcottage@btinternet.com and I might revert to Plan A.
