St Thomas Cross pub is hosting a midday to midnight music festival on Saturday 4th July. Most of the bands are local, a couple are from Newton. If it's anything like last year it'll be a day to remember - and this year it's free.
MUSIC AND BEER - PAST
On Saturday 28th June a variety of local musicians played in the garden of the Stag and Pheasant. The audience, enjoying the warm sunshine, were treated not only to some exceptional local talent but also to a larger than usual range of draft beers. As the afternoon turned into evening a range of local musicians took advantage of the open mic to showcase their skills. Thanks particularly to John for holding it all together and to Steve, Pete and the rest for entertaining us late into the night. Pictured below is the Lawrence Sherrif Jazz Orchestra who opened the show.
VILLAGE PICNIC - SUNDAY 7TH JUNE
The long-held belief that the sun always shines on the picnic was tested to destruction as torrential rain fell throughout the morning. At 12.00, the scheduled start time, it was still raining and the decision was made to transfer to the Village Hall. Not surprisingly this limited numbers with fewer than usual attending. The format was different this year - the picnic was to be a showcase for younger village talent and so they had an opportunity to appear in the Hall rather than in a field. Those who did attend were treated to rock musicians, folk music, classical music and even a couple of jugglers.
And the weather - needless to say the sun came out and it was dry all afternoon.
